Greetings Big Ten Family,
Welcome to the Big Ten Club of Southern California! There has never been a more exciting time to be part of our vibrant community. As the only official Big Ten Club on the West Coast, we are proud to unite alumni and friends from all 18 powerhouse universities that make up the Big Ten Conference.
Since our founding in 1933, the Big Ten Club has brought together Midwestern alumni who found their way to the sunny shores of Southern California. Over the years, as the conference has expanded east and west, so too has our club—now welcoming new members from USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. Today, our club is a dynamic hub where diverse backgrounds and school loyalties come together to create something truly special.
What sets us apart? Our members. The Big Ten Club is more than just a multi-university alumni group—it’s a community where you can network, make lifelong friends, give back to the local community, and, of course, celebrate our legendary rivalries.
We host a variety of incredible events throughout the year, including our annual Person of the Year Dinner, the Rose Queen’s Mixer, and exclusive access to Rose Bowl tickets through our partnership with the Tournament of Roses. Whether you’re looking to socialize, support your alma mater, or simply have fun, the Big Ten Club is the place to be.
We invite you to get involved—whether by attending events, joining as a member, or taking a more active role on our board. We’re always looking for enthusiastic and energetic members to help us plan events, raise scholarship funds, represent the club at Big Ten Media Days, and make a lasting impact on our community.
Thank you for visiting our website. We hope to see you at an upcoming event—and welcome you to the Big Ten Club family!
Go Big Ten!

Rose Bowl Tickets
One of the best benefits of affiliation with the Big Ten Club is the opportunity to purchase tickets to the annual January 1 Rose Bowl game – “The Granddaddy of them all” as our friend Keith Jackson would often say – and at face value. That tradition continues this year when we will have our ticket allotment ready to go on sale in early December. And while we will not know until December which teams will play in the Rose Bowl game, we can share that you can purchase tickets before they go on sale to the general public. The cost various every year and our allocation from the Tournament House includes excellent seats to the game, the annual Queen’s Mixer, and a nominal handling charge. Yes, it might be the best deal in town! Queen’s Mixer Held at the historic Valley Hunt Club in Pasadena – only a few blocks down the street from Tournament House – this annual Holiday tradition offers the opportunity to meet this year’s Rose Queen and her Court as well as Tournament of Roses president and other Tournament of Roses volunteers and officials. Seeing the Valley Hunt Club during the holiday season makes for an evening that everyone who attends will not soon forget. Person of the Year Award One of the most cherished traditions of the Club is the annual Person of the Year dinner, often held in the spring at Tournament House in Pasadena. Past recipients of this award include Desmond Howard (Heisman winner & announcer), Sherry Lansing (president and CEO of Paramount Studios), Keith Jackson (ABC television sportscaster), Barry Alvarez (head football coach and athletic director at Wisconsin), Kirk Herbstreit (ESPN football sportscaster) Steve Garvey (second baseman with the LA Dodgers), Keith Jackson (sportscaster), John Wooden (UCLA basketball coach), and many more luminaries with a connection to the Big Ten Conference. |
Call for Volunteers
Since 1933, the Big Ten Club of Southern California has been bringing together alumni from the Big Ten through a variety of entertaining events and programs that have served our members well over the years. As a volunteer-run organization – we have no professional staff to assist us – we rely solely on fellow volunteers to make it all happen, such as the Queen’s Mixer, the Person of the Year dinner, the selling and distribution of Rose Bowl tickets and so much more. However, we are now in need of new volunteers to help make happen all that we do. If you have interest in serving as a volunteer, or would like to learn more about the volunteer opportunities that are available, please contact [email protected] for additional information. We can find a role for you and you might be surprised to find out how much fun a bunch of Spartans, Badgers, Wildcats, Fighting Illini, Cornhuskers – and more – can have when we all get together in a common cause of serving Big Ten alumni who live in Southern California! Los Angeles Regional Foodbank Community Service Project – The Club’s annual community service project at the LA Regional Foodbank is typically held in April. We always have a great time while we spend the morning working to give back to the needy members of our community. Then following our ‘day of service’ we sometimes head to Avila’s El Ranchito restaurant to get to know one another a little better over a cold drink and hot meal. |
