PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Fellow BTC Members, The Big Ten Club of Southern California has started its new calendar year. We wrapped up an excellent year in early April by honoring Sherry Lansing, Northwestern University alum, as our 2011 Person of the Year. Special thanks to our outgoing president Jim Jacobs on scheduling such a great honoree and to our auctioneer Derek Hildebrandt for his help in raising over $5000 for the Northwestern University scholarship fund. In the next few months we have our annual Hollywood Bowl picnic and concert as well as our yearly Caucus with the Tournament of Roses. Keep up with our club news and event calendar at www.bigtenclub.com. We hope to see you at some of our events. We would love to hear from you. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions please contact us. We are always looking for new event ideas or ways to improve the club for our members. Have a great summer and Go Big Ten!! Sincerely, Steve Green

Big Ten Club Website – Help Wanted Our Webmaster Steven Green will be President next year, and he'll have plenty to do for the Club. We are thinking of redoing the website and asking for a volunteer who can add content regularly and keep it updated. This is a very important part of our updated Communication plan, and help here would be very useful and greatly appreciated. The ideal person would have web design experience, a little graphic art knowledge and 3-4 hours a month available to help the Club. Please contact Alan Freeman, Communications Committee Chair at afreeman@bestOCevents.com or cell (714) 390-5190 if you would like to help in this important position. Saturday, June 25th, 7:00 am – 11:00 pm Point Fermen Park San Pedro, CA RSVP If you have never been to Shakespeare by the Sea or maybe never heard of it here is the scoop. Shakespeare by the Sea is a free (yes you read correctly FREE) production of a Shakespeare play. This year’s performance will be “MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING”. The location is in Point Fermin Park in San Pedro. The show starts at 8:00 but come early (around 7:00) and join are picnic in the park before the play. Everyone is repsonsable for their own food and drink. Getting to Point Fermin is easy. Just take the 110 South till it dead ends into Gaffey St. Turn Left and continue to head south on Gaffey till Gaffey dead ends into Point Fermin Park. The parking lot in the park is usually full so park in the lot across the street from the park. It will be on your right just before you enter the park. Point Fermin Park is right on the ocean so it does get very chilly at night. A heavy sweatshirt or a coat is a must and a blanket will also help besides having something to lay down on the ground for the picnic. Bring a lawn chair for the show and in case we do not save any bench seats. Finally if you are busy on June 25th but still think Shakespeare by the Sea sounds fun go to shakespearebythesea.org and check out the other shows not only in San Pedro but through out the South Bay, Orange County and Pasadena.
