SEE ATTACHMENT LINK AT BOTTOM OF PAGE TO DOWNLOAD OR PRINT THE NEWSLETTER PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE December 1, 2010 Dear Fellow BTC Members, Now that we’re past Thanksgiving – and the holiday and college bowl season is looming – the club moves into what has traditionally been one of its busiest times of the year. The annual holiday party took place on December 5, the Queen’s Luncheon is coming up on December 17 and, of course, the Rose Bowl game between Big Ten Co-Champion Wisconsin and Texas Christian University will welcome in the New Year on January 1, 2011. And speaking of football, congratulations to the Badgers, Spartans and Buckeyes for all claiming a share of the Big Ten title by finishing with a final conference record of 7-1. The Big Ten Club Board, which meets four times a year to plan the club calendar and discuss other club-related matters, recently met on the West Side of Los Angeles. If you have an interest in serving as a club volunteer please let me know as we’re especially interested in recruiting additional Board members from Iowa, Ohio State and Illinois. Members are also welcome to attend any of our Board meetings. The next two meetings are scheduled for Tuesday, January 25 and Tuesday, March 29. If interested, please let me know and I’ll be happy to send your further information. Finally, we’re happy to share with you the good news that Sherry Lansing, former CEO of Paramount Studios and Northwestern alumna, will be our 2011 Person of the Year. The dinner is set for Wednesday, April 13 at Tournament House in Pasadena. Invitations will be sent next spring but, for now, please save this date on your calendar for what promises to be a very memorable evening. On behalf of the Big Ten Club’s Board of Directors, please accept our very best wishes for a safe, relaxing and enjoyable holiday season. We look forward to seeing you soon at one of our upcoming events. Go Big Ten! Every September more than 1,000 young women vie for the honor of being part of the Rose Tournament’s Royal Court - participating in a month-long interview process designed to find those participants with the right combination of poise, personality, public speaking ability and scholastic achievement. It is truly an honor to meet and celebrate these accomplished young ladies. Special guests for this event also include Jeff Throop, the President of the Tournament of Roses, and Scott McKibben, the Executive Director (and University of Wisconsin graduate) of the Tournament, as well as many other Tournament guests. Please note that the Valley Hunt Club has a dress code of “business attire” for both men and women and cell phones are not allowed.
