RIP David J. Schucker, Purdue

Message from the Club President:
For those of you who get our monthly newsletter, you know that I write something at the beginning of each one.  It is my way of staying in touch with all of you and reaching out.

The last thing I was expecting to do was this.

It is with much sadness and deep regret that I must tell you we lost one of our past presidents.  Dave Schucker passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack on October 15

Dave was such a lovely, kind and generous man, and I am truly honored to have known him.  I know all of you feel the same who knew him, and like me will have trouble processing all of this.  He opened his heart and his home to the club, and the thought of a Rose Bowl ticket distribution day anywhere else seems wrong.

Dave served as president in 2006 and would always make us smile as he would regale us with details about Purdue… many, many details.  He loved his school, he loved the Big Ten Club and he obviously loved his wonderful family.

Our thoughts go out to his wife Margaret and their four children, Jane, Nancy, Greta and David.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to:The Purdue Foundation in memory of Dave Schucker
403 West Wood Street
West Lafayette, IN 47907

The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 22, 10am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in San Pedro with a reception to follow.  Click for map, http://goo.gl/maps/2XHdy.

Sincerely and sorrowfully,

Marc Goldsmith

RIP Fred Soldwedel

We’re writing to share with you the sad news that Fred W. Soldwedel,  a former president of both the Big Ten Club and the Tournament of Roses Association, passed away on Monday, May 14. Fred was the Club’s second Person of the Year in 1987 and was an active volunteer for many Pasadena organizations during his lifetime. His son, Fred D. Soldwedel, also served as Big Ten Club president from 2000-2001, perhaps the only father-son duo that can claim that distinction.

Fred’s memorial service will be on Thursday, May 24 at 4:00 p.m. at San Marino Community Church, 1750 Virginia Road, San Marino, CA 91108. If you are interested in attending or have any questions, please contact Jim Jacobs at 626-334-5676 or wildcats76@verizon.net.

Please join us in offering our best wishes to the Soldwedel family during this difficult time.
